downloads adgames: from free games Mini Opera Mobile 1.6m
When using term Advergaming, that usually refers to paid content, for example game comissioned by a client, to be used as a marketing tool for certain campaign or product. And the trend seems to be quite strong: according to this press release by Opera / Greystripe, during 60 days of launching a free downloadable mobile game service, over 1.6 million games and applications were downloaded. One of the most interesting avenues for mobile games — and especially Flash Lite games — is the adgaming; today mainly meaning games that are distributed for free, and the revenue comes from showing the ads before and after the actual gameplay (just like in the internet). (on November 23rd, 2007, Opera announced that the Opera Mini browser has been installed in more than 26 million devices - what is the churn rate [meaning how many of the old devices are still in use] is not known by us — Opera Mini officially launched worldwide on January 24, 2006). And how it works: “The Opera Mini homepage now includes a GameJump bookmark, allowing users to access Greystripe’s freemobile game portal with one easy click.” Now, when you think about the possibilities with Flash Lite games and other content, you should immediately realize that viral distribution (one of the reasons is the lack of built in DRM, Digital Rights Management), and installation, of Flash Lite files is far more easier than with J2ME — which generates an opportunity. Currently it is not an issue, but might prove to be one in the future. Airtime: the catch with free games is that they show ads. It may well be, that the old models of pay per download or subscribe to a monthly service will not be as lucrative for Flash Lite content as the viral advertising model: PRO’s As End users are easily able to distribute Flash Lite files to each other; for example via bluetooth - just send the file from your mobile device to another [that has Flash Lite player] and there it is immediately; no installation, just find the game from your inbox, click, and play. Piracy is not an issue; as developer/publisher want the game to be accessed by as many people as possible, as the revenue comes solely from viewing the adds = more games played, more revenue Direct to consumer distribution is easier (as consumers, end-users, distribute the games to their friends) CON’s Legislation: legislation concerning mobile marketing differs vastly from country to country, and there are no clear rules. If there is no access to the network, the game is/might not be playable at all. Although the number of Flash Lite enabled devices is on the rise, lot of phones don’t have Flash Lite. If you have any thoughts on the subject, feel free to post comments. How that legislation reacts to free mobile games — is anybody’s guess. In order to show ads and count the number of ads showed, the mobile device needs to connect to the network — which creates some data transfer costs.

I’ll share some of the daytime pictures and a nighttime video sample in this post. Can you spot the Nokia N82? Snowboarding and Skiing Watch The Ball My friends and I rather stay warm to watch the ball drop in Times Square at midnight. I used the Nokia N82 for the whole New Year’s Eve. I brought it to Camelback, Poconos for snowboarding pictures with family, used the GPS navigation to find my way back to New York City, then finished it off by taking video from the house party to watch the ball drop. Nokia N82 connected to the Nokia DT-22 and Gorillapod. There’s nothing bad I can say about the Gorillapod. Since our Nokia phones do not come with the standard screws, we still an adapter like the one on the Nokia DT-22 to attach to the Gorillapod. Not only did the Gorillapod work as a traditional tripod, but I was also able to hang my Nokia N82 to the car’s side mirror and wrap it around a patio siderail. Also, hopes are high for getting some real feedback from Nokia for specific technical issues — we shall see how things turn out. Hopefully it will serve the Flash Lite development community well, and become a source for Flash Lite related information (which is currently quite scattered over Forum Nokia). I chose to upload all my photos to Flickr because in my opinion it is the best for hosting photos. If you connect the dots, you can slightly see the path taken. What I get as a result are photos uploaded to Flickr show up as dots on a map where the pictures were taken from. With the addition of Shozu, all the pictures I took were also geotagged with the current location. Nokia N82 vs. This is also possible with other Nseries phones enabled with GPS like the Nokia N95. You can view the geotagged photos on a map on Flickr Geotagging the pictures were possible because of Shozu. Instead of photowalking, I was photodriving using the Nokia N82. You can view the geotagged photos taken today on Flickr or view below. I’ll try to see if I can bring those back. I went ahead and pressed the button. If you are reading this in an RSS reader please take a look. Posts have also been reorganized and can be easily accessed by the navigation menu. This redesign made me realize that I have over 30 videoblogs! For example, after the update, comments after January 3rd went missing. Do you like it? I still need to put a new logo up, but I’m loving some of the new features. Before, the shipping price was not considered. There are still some things that need to be done. I also tweaked the Price Check pages so now they first add the price AND shipping of the latest Nokia phones, before sorted from the lowest price. Please let me know!
