Since I have the Nokia N95-4 variation, I get fast 3G internet speed on the AT&T network.

For added security, you also have the option of turning on WEP encryption so nobody else can leech off your connection.

Thoughts

I have more must-have applications to demo in upcoming videologs. In this vlog, I’ll show you how simple it is to use.

Video formats: Web High Quality, Mobile, Youtube, Share Ovi

I just open the application and click yes to share my internet connection from my contact me.

Joikuspot is a must-have application for our S60-powered Nokia phones. This free download turns the phone into a wireless access point for other devices like laptop, internet tablet, iPod touch, or iPhone. I’m also interested in some of my readers’ must-have apps.

It enhances the experience with the main functions such as messaging, managing contacts, scheduling, and browsing the web that are all very important to a business user.

Games and Other Applications

Since the Nokia E90 runs on S60 3rd edition, you can install a bunch more applications on the phone to increase your productivity or even play a few games. You need to use the main screen for better usage. This feels similar to Push Email as described by All About Symbian.

I set up my Gmail imap account on the built-in messaging application and was able to receive emails and get notified as they come. The main functions are very similar with a few differences unique to each phone.

Phone Calls

Making phone calls look very similar to other S60 3rd edition phones. As you browse through the calendar days on the left side of the screen, a quick summary of your schedule is shown on the right side. screen allows more information displayed to the user. When opened, the bigger display shows more information other than the name as you scroll through the list.

Contacts on the Nokia E90

You can also choose voice dialing. I like the automatic notifications, but I’m not impressed with the interface when it comes to reading my emails. Instead of a window pop-up, an alert appears within the active standby screen. Unlike the Nseries phones where you hold the right soft-key to activate voice dialing or voice commands, you press and hold the side button on the Nokia E90.

Sound volume is fine on the earpiece, but I found the speakerphone not loud enough to my liking. Thanks again to Expansys for providing the E90.

The Nokia E90 runs on S60 3rd edition similar to the Nokia N95 and Nokia N82. I much prefer going to the Gmail website to read the emails.

Email on the Nokia E90

The Nokia E90 supports Exchange, but I don’t use that type of email and cannot comment my own experience. Since the browser supports Flash Lite 3, you can even go to Youtube to watch videos from the site directly. The speakers are covered by your right hand when holding the phone in open position and also covered when faced flat on a table.

Messaging

The exterior screen is not as useful in reading email.

Part 2 of the Nokia E90 review covers the main features and functions of the phone. I have no complaints in this area other than I wish it was compatible with US 3G!

Browsing the Web

I love the wide screen on the Nokia E90. Most websites fit to the screen’s width and they appear similar to what you’ll see on a computer monitor. In the end, I think the Nokia E90’s large screen is its main strength. I have a better experience reading my emails on Gmail’s website.

On the next part of the Nokia E90 review, I’ll explore the camera for photos and videos. One negative thing I need to mention is that I’m still not a big fan of the built-in email application. Press contacts, and then you can scroll or start typing in names to find the right person with the exterior screen. On the Nseries using the smaller displays, you have to click on the dates to see the same information.

Nokia E90’s calendar

Connectivity

The Nokia E90 supports Wifi, infrared, GPS, bluetooth, A2DP, microSD, EDGE, and 3G (though not compatible with US 3G). What’s cool is that holding the left soft-key allows the E90 to read the new messages aloud for you!

Calendar

The bigger screen is utilized pretty well in the calendar application. Take a look at E-series.org’s take on Mail for Exchange 2.5 for S60.

Text message alerts are different on the Nokia E90 than on the Nokia N95. Attila Katona over at All About Symbian wrote a nice article on Gaming with the Nokia E90 you should read about and my top 10 applications.

Conclusion

The Nokia E90’s 4in. I’ll be making a lot of the comparisons with the Nseries, because devices like the Nokia N95 and Nokia N82 are what I mostly use. You can read Part 1 of the Nokia E90 review on the Physical aspects before continuing if you haven’t done so.

Screen Protector Review: Cleartouch Boxwave Crystal
I would say stay away from Boxwave and try a screen protector from another company. There is also another version called the Anti-Glare, but I opted for clarity instead. I ordered on Boxwave on the 19th with 2nd Day delivery. I have not received any email replies yet, but received the package on the 27th. When it’s time to sell my phone to replace for a newer and better one, I’ll take off the screen protector and take pictures of the beautiful undamaged 2.8 inch display on the Nokia N95 8GB.

Service

I’m happy with the product, but really disappointed with the service. It is worse if dust or tiny specks got caught in the adhesive side of the screen protector because it is harder to remove.

Fortunately, the adhesive on the Cleartouch is washable and reusable. I carry my phone in my pocket, so having a screen protector makes sure that anything else in my pocket does not scratch the screen. I had to wash mine because dust got caught in there and I had to remove it. Update: I received a reply this afternoon shortly after this post was published that I will be given refund of the shipping cost. hard paper).

Putting It On

It’s not as easy as it seems.

Let us know what screen protector you are using and your experience so far. I emailed them on the 24th that I have not received it yet.

Nokia N95 8GB with Boxwave Cleartouch Screen Protector

Protection

I purchased it for peace of mind knowing the real screen won’t get scratched. It creates bubbles that will not go away.

You really need to make sure there are no dust or small particles on the adhesive AND the screen. I guarantee you that it will take you more than one try. The one I purchased for the Nokia N95 8GB was also a perfect fit, covering the entire surface of the screen. Once it dried, I tried again and no bubbles appeared.

Display

Without the bubbles, you won’t realize the screen protector is there.

Verdict

I had to wait at least a week for a second day delivery and I have not received a reply about my complaint.

Also after having 2.8 inches of screen space on the N95 8GB, it’s going to be hard to settle for anything smaller.

Switch?

What are your thoughts on the Nokia E71? I know it’s petty, but it’s convenient for taking those candid pics. Judging from the pictures, it looks like it can sway an Nseries user into the Eseries. Any current Nseries users out there thinking of the switch? For example, holding down that camera button on the Nokia E71 will not activate the 3 megapixel camera. Slick candybar form with qwerty keyboard sure looks tempting.

There’s also 5 brightness levels that you can control right from the keyboard. However, I have a problem with the camera button and the qwerty keypad. On a positive note, the Shift, Control, and Chr buttons are really useful. The exterior keypads provides perfect tactile feedback to the fingers when pressed. The flat surface is protected by 4 rubber corners similar to what we see on laptops to raise it a few millimeters. Placing the Nokia E90 in the jeans pocket is possible, but you certainly feel its weight and size. Thanks to Expansys for providing the E90.

If you haven’t yet, take a look at my Nokia E90 introduction where I took a video of the Nokia E90’s hardware.

Monster Size

My first impressions right after opening the box was, “wow, this is big!” According to the specs, it weighs 214g (7.5oz) and measures 133.5mm x 57.5mm x 20.5mm (5.3″ x 2.3″ x .8″). When you open the Nokia E90, you feel it snap into place at the 90 degree angle.

After 2 weeks with the Nokia E90, I’m ready to give my review divided in a few parts. This requires less left and right scrolling. This makes it really quick to open up applications. In the end, I like the Nokia E90’s excellent build quality, but frustrated with the camera button. It really makes the Nokia E90 feel like a laptop. Nokia must have concentrated on the hinges really well because it works great. Even though the Nokia E90 supports autofocus, doing the “half-way press” is a hit or miss! You can feel a nice clicking movement after each press.

A 3.2 megapixel camera is placed on the back below the speakers and above the battery cover. The size might discourage people, but having a full-featured keyboard is probably more important to those interested in the device. It feels harder to press. It’s not a big deal, but I sometimes find myself going backwards to reinsert a letter.

Nokia E90 Keyboard

I feel the keyboard might be too big. You pull it down and then it raises by spring mechanism.

Nokia E90 microSD slot

On the side are buttons for the camera and the voice recorder. Let’s compare that with the Nokia N95 8GB measuring at 99mm x 53mm x 21mm. Most webpages fit the whole width of the screen. Even though the Nokia E90 is big and heavy in specs, it feels good to hold in the hands.

Nokia E90 vs Nokia N95 8GB size comparison

An issue is where to carry the phone. I have to extend my thumb to reaching for the letters Y, H, and N or if I’m trying the Ctl+C and Control+V for copy and pasting. This button ruins the experience of taking pictures.

Open Position.

Opening the Nokia E90 feels nice. You can then move it a little more or until it is completely flat.

The 4in. The bulge is noticeable, so don’t even try it on tight-fitting jeans.

Exterior.

On the outside, we see a 2in. display with the resolution of 240×320 pixels. Unlike Nseries phones, holding down the camera button will not open the camera application. Unfortunately, the keyboard inside does not have the same tactile feedback as the exterior keypad. display with 800×352 pixel resolution is great for browsing the web compared to phones with smaller screens. I also have another complaint about the camera button. I like the microSD card slot cover. Selecting any of the lower levels are too dim in my opinion.

Plenty of shortcuts are available on the qwerty keyboard and users are given two to point to their preferred app. For the first part of the Nokia E90 review, I explore its physical aspects. People will like also the wide screen display for browsing the web. In the next part of the Nokia E90 review, I’ll be exploring and reviewing more into the functions. I choose the max brightness. Opening or closing the Nokia E90 feels great. Numbers, punctuation keys, and other functions are easier to access than non-qwerty keypads.

Conclusion

The Nokia E90’s build quality is excellent. Unlike other phones using secondary displays with dumbed down features, the Nokia E90 delivers a fully working one.

20.2.011 N95-3 Firmware Nokia Review:
I could watch some videos from within the web browser.

Browser

However there are some bad points in this update. It would be nice if Nokia released this kind of upgrades more frequently, specially for high-end models such as this one. While they are better organized, it adds extra clicks to get where you want. They didn’t change from 10.x to 11.x. I updated my phone as soon as the Nokia Software Updater told me about it. Functionality is now up to the experience described for the N95 8GB. Another performance improvement I have noticed is in the camera startup and processing time.

This creates another access point in the Access Point configuration in the form of “MyWLAN (1)”. Besides the obvious free RAM, I also feel the phone more responsive and with a better startup time.

After long delays finally Nokia released a firmware update for the Nokia N95 NAM (N95-3). So far the experience has been mixed in my case.

Demand Paging

This update at last implements on-demand paging on this device. The effect is quite noticeable: with the old firmware I had 70MB RAM free, while I now have 83MB. Now it is really usable.

Flash

Also in this update if Flash Lite 3, the long awaited Flash update for this model. The web browser is somewhat unstable, crashing sometime when I enter to Settings. Well done Nokia! Anyway, you could tweak your menu to make it appear similar to previous versions.

Developers

If you’re a developer you’ll have problems with on-device debug. Also I have a bug with WLANs which makes the phone not recognize a WLAN I have defined and asks the access details again. I recommend installing AppTRK version 2.8.9 (which comes with Carbide.C++ 1.3.1), as previous versions will not work.

Conclusion

All said, I think this update is worth installing as it enhances performance and includes some nice new features. However in this version they have gone, in my opinion, a somewhat big redesign. This wasn’t there in any previous version (11.x, 10.x).

Menu

I liked the way the menus were in previous versions. Note that this includes the antivirus.

The applications included in the USB stick are Joikuspot, Shozu, Twibble, Nokia Internet Radio, and Nseries DJ Mixer.

I already use the applications except the Internet Radio, so I had to install it.

I received an Open To Anything goody bag in the mail today. It’s exactly what it sounds like: radio from the internet. There are lots of listed stations to choose from and the music is streamed through your phone’s data connection. There’s a key chain, mints, pen marker, and a USB stick. Open To Anything is a humorous site that features the Nokia N95 8GB.

8GB N95 Nokia Nokia Mount ProClip and Car Review: For Kit N82

I finally found the best car mount for our Nokia phones. Thieves won’t notice you have a GPS navigation because they don’t see anything suctioned to the windshield.

Cons: A little pricey. No worries of the phone falling off. It doesn’t shake or make rattling noises. I didn’t even notice how beautiful Nokia Maps look on landscape view until I installed the ProClip. Take a look at the Mitsubishi Eclipse mount instructions for example.

ProClip mount with Move Clip, without holder.

Slide the back of the holder with Move Clip into the mount.

Results

The mount is rock-on steady.

I selected the holders for the Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia N82. ProClip also provides the instructions in pdf format in addition to a printed one provided with your package. The pictures are self-explanatory. Take a look at my review.

Purchasing

Purchasing the kit requires you to buy a specific holder for your device and then a specific mount for your car. It’s like the Nokia N95 8GB transformed from a phone into a navigation console when I entered my car and placed it on the dashboard.

Pros: Excellent quality and fit. The clip allows you to slide in or out different holders on one mount.

Optional Step 3: Move Clip lets you easily change holders on one mount.

The price is high compared to the cheap windshield mounts you can find from eBay.

Package

The kit comes in a package with the necessary screws and illustrated instructions. Here is my view from driver’s seat.

View from driver’s seat.

The ProClip kit made me appreciate my Nokia N95 8GB even more! If you don’t like reading, don’t worry. Without the move clip, you have to unscrew and screw each time you change devices.

Instead of the generic ones where you adjust for different devices, each holder conforms to the specific shape of the device. I then selected the mount for Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000-2005.

Step 1: Select the holder for the device.

Step 2: Select the mount for your car.

Optional Clip. That’s your basic need above. It is the ProClip kit. If you want to easily change devices, you’ll want to get the Move Clip. I don’t exactly know the sizes, but I’m sure you’ll have them lying somewhere in your house.

The view. I recommend getting the holder with the swivel because it gives you a better angled view at the display. I was already disappointed with cheap windshield mounts I bought from eBay as they kept falling off. The 2.8in screen on my dashboard makes GPS navigation on a phone look really cool. Since the mount is placed on my dashboard, the car charger easily reaches the phone if needed. I was able to switch between devices very quickly.

I love the N82 geotagging feature, I’d never know where these pictures were taken otherwise.

This fire truck was on its way to an accident. I then plugged the N82 into my Proporta USB Mobile Device Charger. Having fun with your gadgets all day long without worrying about battery life. I’ll tell you how I survived the road trip with the Nokia N82, Nokia N95, Nokia N800, and Proporta charger

The night before, I loaded up about 2 hours of video podcasts on the Nokia N82.

I’ve been in Houston, Texas visiting relatives for the past week. I neglected to fully charge the N95 and ran out of juice after about 90 minutes. I plugged in the Proporta charger and I was able to continue listening without having to turn off the N95 to change the batteries.

When I finally got home, the Nokia N82 was out of juice. Thanks to geotagging, I can see that I took this picture west of Vidor, TX.

There’s a map of the whole trip.

So anyway, when we got to the casino, the Nokia N82 was out of juice. I plugged it in and got one more full charge out of the Proporta charger before it gave me the red light.

This is what mobile survival is all about. I managed to watch all of it before the battery ran out.

I also managed to take a few pictures along the way while on the bus. The trip took two and a half hours to get there. I don’t gamble, so I walked around and toured the grounds.

After a large lunch at the buffet, I found a nice quiet area and watched some movies on my Nokia N800 internet tablet.

On the trip back, I listened to a podcast on my Nokia N95 with my bluetooth headphones while internet browsing with the Nokia N82. Yesterday, I took my mom on a bus tour to a casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Nokia I, Part E90 Physical Review: Aspects
In the end, I like the Nokia E90’s excellent build quality, but frustrated with the camera button.

Even though the Nokia E90 is big and heavy in specs, it feels good to hold in the hands.

Nokia E90 vs Nokia N95 8GB size comparison

An issue is where to carry the phone. For the first part of the Nokia E90 review, I explore its physical aspects. The bulge is noticeable, so don’t even try it on tight-fitting jeans.

Exterior.

On the outside, we see a 2in. I also have another complaint about the camera button.

Numbers, punctuation keys, and other functions are easier to access than non-qwerty keypads.

Conclusion

The Nokia E90’s build quality is excellent. I choose the max brightness. Unlike Nseries phones, holding down the camera button will not open the camera application. Unlike other phones using secondary displays with dumbed down features, the Nokia E90 delivers a fully working one. The exterior keypads provides perfect tactile feedback to the fingers when pressed. When you open the Nokia E90, you feel it snap into place at the 90 degree angle. Unfortunately, the keyboard inside does not have the same tactile feedback as the exterior keypad. In the next part of the Nokia E90 review, I’ll be exploring and reviewing more into the functions. On a positive note, the Shift, Control, and Chr buttons are really useful. You pull it down and then it raises by spring mechanism.

Nokia E90 microSD slot

On the side are buttons for the camera and the voice recorder. You can then move it a little more or until it is completely flat.

The 4in. It really makes the Nokia E90 feel like a laptop. However, I have a problem with the camera button and the qwerty keypad. display with the resolution of 240×320 pixels. This button ruins the experience of taking pictures.

Open Position.

Opening the Nokia E90 feels nice. It feels harder to press.

After 2 weeks with the Nokia E90, I’m ready to give my review divided in a few parts. Opening or closing the Nokia E90 feels great. I have to extend my thumb to reaching for the letters Y, H, and N or if I’m trying the Ctl+C and Control+V for copy and pasting. You can feel a nice clicking movement after each press.

A 3.2 megapixel camera is placed on the back below the speakers and above the battery cover. The size might discourage people, but having a full-featured keyboard is probably more important to those interested in the device. Even though the Nokia E90 supports autofocus, doing the “half-way press” is a hit or miss! It’s not a big deal, but I sometimes find myself going backwards to reinsert a letter.

Nokia E90 Keyboard

I feel the keyboard might be too big. Nokia must have concentrated on the hinges really well because it works great. display with 800×352 pixel resolution is great for browsing the web compared to phones with smaller screens. The flat surface is protected by 4 rubber corners similar to what we see on laptops to raise it a few millimeters. Selecting any of the lower levels are too dim in my opinion.

Plenty of shortcuts are available on the qwerty keyboard and users are given two to point to their preferred app. People will like also the wide screen display for browsing the web. I like the microSD card slot cover. Most webpages fit the whole width of the screen. This makes it really quick to open up applications. There’s also 5 brightness levels that you can control right from the keyboard. Let’s compare that with the Nokia N95 8GB measuring at 99mm x 53mm x 21mm. Placing the Nokia E90 in the jeans pocket is possible, but you certainly feel its weight and size. This requires less left and right scrolling.

Sony tool now Ericsson Creator Themes Flash packaging Lite of files allows
The devices able to use the Flash Lite files include C702, C902, W760, W980 (Flash Lite 2.0 devices). According to Hayden, for other devices one must distribute the SWF content separately from the theme.

“New Theme Generator feature
The Theme Generator is a new feature in the tool that lets designers quickly create harmonious themes based on a predefined color formula by allowing you to change the general colorization of the theme using the color wheel, color sliders or by directly changing the HEX values. It allows the packaging of Flash Lite files (screensaver/wallpaper) into the Themes files.

Another option is to use the Theme Generator feature as a starting point for getting a set of colors for the various elements in the theme and then go on from there and add images, graphics, animations, sound effects etc.”

The tool is available for Windows, OS X (MAC) and Linux.

Via Hayden, Sony Ericsson has released a new version of their Themes Creator tool (v 3.27) on their Developer site.

The sun was glaring, but the wind helped cool us off. I did not know anything about the place beforehand, but I was really glad we went on the excursion. I recommend anyone to visit this place. The stingrays live in the area because of the food that the tourist guides and fishermen bring them.

On my next vacation, I will make sure to bring an underwater kit for the Stingray City at Cayman Islands captured with the Flash J2ME it million platform and is Symbian succesful lifetime so passes shipments, 200 (after Lite) most 3rd

Symbian has passed 200 million lifetime shipments, which makes it 3rd most succesful (when counting the amount of devices) platform in the mobile space.

Font Nokia N95 For New American Update Firmware Brings (N95-4) Different 8GB North

Firmware update version 20.2.005 became available to the North American Nokia N95 8GB, and sources have noted there’s not that many changes. Is the font bothering you as much as it is bothering me? I took a few photo comparisons of the two versions for comparison.

Click on each picture for bigger view and better comparison. I’m starting to get used to it. The
The font is shorter as shown on Jaiku.

The newer font is not as smooth as the older font.

Tinier font allows more words per line as showed in Symbian-Guru mobile site.

Thoughts

I’m getting used to it, but I preferred the previous font. It looks like it got shorter and more jagged than the old version. Other than faster camera start-up, I also noticed the font has changed. The new font allows more text to be displayed on screen, but a few stepbacks were taken to cater it.

Did you update your Nokia N95 8GB (N95-4)? It was more readable in my opinion.
