This tutorial is for Flash Lite 2.0 and newer. Written by David Brown (from agencynet.com), and in this 5 page tutorial he describes the process of creating the Bacardi® Mobile Cocktail application, including reacting to environment changes (like current time of day), and how to implement automatic Stage size and orientation switching.

Use Nokia For I Nseries School How Phones
Type in extra notes on each slide as the professor speaks. I can enter calendar entries on Google Calendar while I’m at home using my Macbook, or use one of the PC’s at the school computer lab. The three main applications I focused on are Mobipocket Reader, Quickoffice, and GooSync.

Mobipocket Reader

Mobipocket Reader is an eBook reader. I can’t speak for all students, but all of my professors use Powerpoint presentations for lectures. These slides are all available for us to download and print read before class. I can also enter the dates on my Nokia N95 8GB’s built in calendar application, but no matter what other device I use to enter meetings or due dates, it is all synchronized using GooSync. While my classmates using a physical book have to go through the index to find the drug, I can type the first three letters on my phone and usually find the specific drug instantly. You don’t need to carry that laptop to school!

GooSync

Goosync synchronizes the phone’s calendar with Google Calendar. I added a drug reference eBook for use.

Quickoffice

Quickoffice is an office suite that can read/write documents, presentations, and sheets. As a nursing student, I need to know what kind of medications I give to patients.

It is also faster. I transfer the Powerpoint files into my phone and view it on the train or bus on the way to school. Like I explained in my previous post, carrying a small device in my pocket instead of a thick reference book is more convenient.

The Boy Genius Report got their hands on the Nokia E71, another hot phone that will work for North American 3G. Any current Nseries users out there thinking of the switch? In the Nokia N78 vs video demo of the Nokia N78 to see what I mean. The Nokia N78 features a 1200mAh battery compared to the Nokia N82’s 1050mAh. Take a look at my Nokia N95 LED flash vs Nokia N82 Xenon flash video. Nokia N78 does not have a TV-out compared to the Nokia N82.

When the Nokia N78 comes out, its price will be close to the Nokia N82. You won’t be able to quickly show off your videos and photos to your friends on a TV with a cable. Thoughts

Did I miss anything? You need to decide what is more important to you because these two devices are not that similar in features. Nokia N82 users in the US are stuck on slow EDGE speed. Nokia N78 Cons The Nokia N78 features only a 3 megapixel camera with VGA video capable of 15 frames per second. I’ll explain some important features and let you decide which phone wins over your wallet.

Nokia N78 Pros The Nokia N78 runs on a newer OS with nicer fades and animations as well as other improvements. I’ll assume a bigger battery means longer battery life. The Nokia N78 is thinner than the Nokia N82. The Nokia N78 has an FM transmitter useful for long car journeys. Nokia N78 has a North American variation that will work on AT&T’s fast 3G data. The Nokia N82 comes with 5 megapixels and 30 fps videos. Nokia N78’s LED flash is not as bright as Nokia N82’s Xenon flash.

NAM Shipped N95 $560 Deal: Nokia For 8GB Monday This Five (N95-4)
As you can see, I love this phone!

This is a one time deal and I don’t think I’ll be able to get them at this price again. They’re brand new and comes with Nokia’s one year warranty. The bad news is that I can not ship anything outside of the United States… yet.

Vlog: No Leads Lens Scratches Cover To Eventually
After watching my video, do you think a lens cover protection is necessary on our phones?

I thought the people who complained about missing lens cover on the Nokia N95’s were a bunch of crybabies until I took a closer look at the Web High Quality, Mobile, Youtube, Share Ovi.

The photos of the lens are below. He disagrees with the decision. It probably does.

Nokia claimed that they dropped the lens cover due to popular demand according to Jeremiah from Nokia Users. No protection on the lens eventually leads to scratches. Nothing major, but it can be avoided with proper protection. However, this is a review unit that’s been passed along other people.

You can’t really see the scratches until you hold it up close and I’m not sure if it affects the quality on the pictures and movies.

Final Thoughts I’m glad the Nokia N82 has built-in GPS. Avoid shortcuts in the woods. I scream like a girl whenever I see a snake.

Simply walking straight towards the parking lot using Nokia Maps was out of the question because of cliffs, streams, and rocks on the way. It was probably harmless but I hate snakes. We stupidly listened and easily got lost trying to look for the markers. I was really glad I had the Nokia N82 because the ’shortcut’ we took led us to a poorly marked trail and an omfg snake. Check out the Flickr set for all the photos, but look at a few below. This feature is not currently available on the Nokia N95 but will be on the upcoming Nseries phones.

Sports Tracker

Sports Tracker is perfect for an activity on the weekend like hiking.

What helped us find the way back is by looking at our path on Sports Tracker to determine if we were heading towards the right direction. We eventually hit a paved private road and followed it downhill. What made it worse was seeing a snake slither a few feet away from us. I brought along the pictures from the Nokia N82. If a GPS lock was available, each picture taken will have the location data recorded without the need of another program like Shozu or Location Tagger.

lol, looks like THE KING has his own favorite device… the Nokia N70! Well, while on my lunch break, I was able to snap two quick pics of a very important if not “royal” person proclaiming their loyalty to Nokia.

It never ceases to amaze me the type of people who use and love their Nseries devices.

I’ll be getting in five North American Nokia N95 8GB (N95-4) on Monday, May 19th, and will be selling them for $560 each. As you can see, I love this phone!

This is a one time deal and I don’t think I’ll be able to get them at this price again.

Symbian has passed 200 million lifetime shipments, which makes it 3rd most succesful (when counting the amount of devices) platform in the mobile space. J2ME is clearly leading, and Flash Lite comes after that with about 600 million devices having Flash pre-installed.

Adobe Screen Project Open
Mark Doherty/Adobe writes in his blog more details and thoughts to non-PC developers (mobile being important one).
“The Open Screen Project is dedicated to driving consistent rich Internet experiences across televisions, personal computers, mobile devices, and consumer electronics.”

“The Open Screen Project is working to enable a consistent runtime environment — taking advantage of Adobe® Flash® Player and, in the future, Adobe AIR™ — that will remove barriers for developers and designers as they publish content and applications across desktops and devices, including phones, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), and set top boxes.”

It is supported by technology leaders, including Adobe, ARM, Chunghwa Telecom, Cisco, Intel, LG Electronics Inc., Marvell, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DoCoMo, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics Co., Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Verizon Wireless, and leading content providers, including BBC, MTV Networks, and NBC Universal.

Some of the things this means:

Removing restrictions on use of the SWF and FLV/F4V specifications Publishing the device porting layer APIs for Adobe Flash Player Publishing the Adobe Flash® Cast™ protocol and the AMF protocol for robust data services Removing licensing fees - making next major releases of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR for devices free

Adobe has announced details about the Open Screen Project, pretty important news for mobile Flash Lite developers as well.

J2ME, Ericsson cross-breed Flash Sony with Lite
Communication between Flash Lite and JSRs are handled through an intermediate class that works as a translator.

Sony Ericsson has created a tool that makes it possible to combine aspects of Java and Flash Lite in a single application. key events) are forwarded from Java to Flash Lite and the Flash Lite player has a choice of listening to these events. All system events (e.g. In a nutshell, the tech will allow Flash Lite content to be encapsulated in Java ME applications; especially (or solely) the UI.

Flash has been used widely in creating UI for quite some time, including console games, and whole mobile phone UI’s. This class listens to Flash Lite requests, transfers these to JSR calls, and sends response back to Flash Lite. Capuchin sound like interesting opportunity, let’s see how things turn to.

Now, what would be really interesting, would be a Flash Lite application (a wrapper, really) that could encapsulate J2ME content - astonish us

Via Alessandro, more details about Capuchin:

“Project Capuchin is a Java ME API which makes it possible for Java to run a Flash Lite content file (*.swf) that is shown on the display. In case Flash Lite wants to access some information then it is done through Java. Requests send from Flash Lite are made in an asynchronous manner.”

The tech is called Capuchin, and it is supposed to be available in the second half of this year (well, not that long time . Communication between Flash Lite and Java is bi-directional meaning that Flash Lite can send requests to and receive events from Java.

How Nseries Phones For Nokia I Use School
Type in extra notes on each slide as the professor speaks. Knowing project due dates is really important and I need constant reminders.

I was showing how S60-powered phones like the Nokia Open to Anything party at Slate Plus. I can enter calendar entries on Google Calendar while I’m at home using my Macbook, or use one of the PC’s at the school computer lab. Like I explained in my previous post, carrying a small device in my pocket instead of a thick reference book is more convenient. I transfer the Powerpoint files into my phone and view it on the train or bus on the way to school. The three main applications I focused on are Mobipocket Reader, Quickoffice, and GooSync.

I added a drug reference eBook for use. I can’t speak for all students, but all of my professors use Powerpoint presentations for lectures. While my classmates using a physical book have to go through the index to find the drug, I can type the first three letters on my phone and usually find the specific drug instantly. I can also enter the dates on my Nokia N95 8GB’s built in calendar application, but no matter what other device I use to enter meetings or due dates, it is all synchronized using GooSync. You don’t need to carry that laptop to school!

GooSync

Goosync synchronizes the phone’s calendar with Google Calendar.

It is also faster. As a nursing student, I need to know what kind of medications I give to patients.

Quickoffice is an office suite that can read/write documents, presentations, and sheets.

If that’s not geeky enough for you, connect a bluetooth keyboard to the phone. These slides are all available for us to download and print read before class.

devices billion 2009 in Over 1

According to Bill Perry/Adobe, the device forecast for Flash (Lite) enabled mobile devices has been updated: the adoption rate of Flash is faster than previously anticipated, and there will be over 1 billion devices in 2009 (instead of 2010).

“Over 1 billion devices by 2009
We’ve updated our device forecast and expect that by 2009 there will be over 1 billion devices that will have shipped that support Flash technologies. Previously we stated that we would reach this number by 2010 – so this is more good news for the Open Screen Project and shows the explosive growth of Flash technologies in mobile phones.”

Rumor: N93/N93i No Nokia 2010 Successor Up To
I’m a little disappointed hearing about this, but sliders like the Nokia N96 and candybars like the Nokia N78 seem more practical.

What do you think?
