Games 2011 Revenues by Mobile Hit Billion to Dollars 6
According to this downloadable .pdf press release by entertainment analyst firm Understanding & Solutions, the growth of mobile game market seems to continue strongly - stronger than console or handheld market, which places mobile at second position after the online games market. “Global revenues from mobile gaming are pegged at $3.6Bn this year,” says Understanding & Solutions Analyst, David Rouse, “and we predict this figure to rise to $6.0bn by 2011. Although not seen as the killer application for mobile, games areincreasingly important as the market continues to see major growth.” “Subscription based and ad-funded models are on the rise,” continues Rouse, “and microtransactions - the acquisition of additional levels or virtual goods during game play – are also beginning to play a part. However, pay per download is still the most significant revenue generator across all regions.” “Looking to emerging markets, particularly China and India, the segment is driven by snowballing mobile phone take-up rates; however, due to comparably low prices, Asia - excluding Korea and Japan - is still expected to account for less than 10% of globalrevenues in 2011.”

Game Soccer Interactive Navball: GPS-enabled
Once again, us here in the States can only sit on the sidelines while our European friends basked in the glory of technology. Bam! (it’s all about Thierry Henry!) Now, while browsing around the interweb looking for soccer games for the Nokia N95, I ran across this radical sport called NavBall. 22 people running around dressed in brightly colored tee’s while forming a huge arrow that can only be seen via an aerial shot or gps while trying to “kick” a giant imaginary soccer ball into an even larger imaginary net?? Oh well, we can only hope that this new sport comes to the States soon. What a freaking great idea!!

Music in Me Alicia Video Never Nokia Key’s N81 Sighting: Like See You’ll Again
That would’ve made a lot more viewers curious of the Nokia N81. I described all these features in my first part Nokia N81 review. Hire Me! If I was the product marketing advisor to the video, I would have suggested Alicia Keys to browse the picture gallery with her boyfriend while rotating Navi wheel then zooming in and out using the buttons on the left. The Nokia N81 is spotted in Alicia Key’s music video of Like You’ll Never See Me Again. Thanks to my buddy Guian from Ninong Brown who tipped me about the video. However, I disagree how the Nokia N81 was marketed in this video. Alicia Keys watching a homemade video on the Nokia N81 I disagree with how the Nokia N81 was marketed in the music video. Are you telling people that it is great for creating and watching videos? The Nokia N81 is the flagship music and gaming phone. Why was Alicia Keys watching a homemade video on the phone? I’ve seen several product placements before from Nokia, but I’m surprised at the length of the continuous footage. It’s in there for a pretty good amount of time… 22 seconds to be exact. The Nokia N95 is the better phone for that.

The left side of the phone moves while the right side stays still. Seeing that made me chuckle a little. Now I know this is a solidly built N95, not the Nokia Xpress Music 5700 which can twist on it’s axis. Then see after the Jump… lol. I believe this video is just poking fun at things, but some people are really into it, sarcasm! The phone doesn’t need to have a touch screen. By the way, Cnet gave a great review of the Nokia 5700. 5 Its Nokia Review: and Megapixel N82 Camera
Learn more by reading Digital Photography Review’s definition of AF assist lamps. The AF assist light on the Nokia N82 Versus Nokia N95. How does the Nokia N82’s camera compare to Nokia N95? Correct focus is found when you see green brackets. One more thing I don’t like about the Nokia N82 is that the camera button is not raised enough like the button on the Nokia N95. I can’t name any other Nseries phone better for the job. It is a white light that goes on when pressing the shutter halfway before taking the picture. You can also read the first part reviewing the Nokia N82’s general physical/hardware before continuing. The image quality is quite similar during daytime, but very different during the evening. After 2 weeks of using the Nokia N82, I’m reviewing about its flagship feature: the camera. All pictures were taken in automatic mode with flash on. Complaints. I noticed a few of my pictures from the Nokia N82 have circular flares from the flash. In the end, I think the camera itself should make this Nseries phone worth buying. Nokia N82’s 5mp Camera with Xenon Flash The Nokia N82 is the Nseries imaging flagship device. It is a tad easier on the Nokia N95 to press “halfway” for focusing on objects. Conclusion I love the camera on the Nokia N82. It works just like any standalone digital camera. Great AF Assist lamp. The Nokia N82 features an AF assist red light that illuminates the object in a dark environment before taking the picture to determine how to adjust the focus. In a brighter environment, this light does not go on. The Nokia N95’s AF assist lamp uses the same as the flash lamp. It means that if you ask Nokia, “what phone is currently the best for taking picures?” they will respond, “Nokia N82!” This cameraphone features 5 megapixel lens with infrared autofocus assist lamp and most importantly the xenon flash. This is the phone to have with you on those fun weekend nights out with your friends. This is not a problem for the Nokia N82. I also found that the Nokia N82 finds the correct focus a lot more than the Nokia N95 can. I’ve been using the phone to take pictures while hanging out with friends at night, and I can tell you that the experience is a lot better than using any other phones I’ve used (I have not tested the Nokia N95 8GB thoroughly yet and will see how the camera performs against the Nokia N82 soon). The flares show up randomly. The main reason for this is the bright xenon flash, but also in part of the AF assist lamp. A search on Google also leads to many photos taken by the Nokia N82 uploaded on Flickr by others. Here are some night indoor pictures I took from a Thai restaurant. I know it is related to the flash, but I’m clueless to what specific situations these flares appear in. Definitely not, but those cameras can’t do half as much what these ‘multimedia computers’ are capable of. Seamless Experience. I’m amazed at how imaging has evolved in cell phones. Will it replace current standalone digital cameras like the Canon Powershots? This can be confusing for people in front of the Nokia N95’s camera because they think the light was the flash and that the picture as already taken. The camera application opens immediately after the lens cover is opened and you press the shutter halfway to get an automatic focus and then press fully to take the picture. Nokia I: Physical The Part Review N82
Nokia made the decision to do this because they know that people watch videos in landscape mode. Because of this placement, the Nokia N82 sits upright nicely in my car’s cup holder while being charged. Guessing the buttons to press while not looking at the phone itself can get tricky. Side Buttons. The three buttons placed on the side are the camera button, gallery, and volume controls. I need to bring it up to my face to have a closer look when I’m somewhere bright. Pressing the camera button halfway briefly shoots out a red light from the camera to assist in auto-focus. I’m not sure if it is spring-loaded, but best way I can explain it is that opening and closing the lens does not feel “cheap” like on the original Nokia N95 (N95-1 model). The 5 megapixel camera with xenon flash on the Nokia N82. Xenon Flash. The xenon flash makes the Nokia N82 stand out in the Nseries. Pressing the correct function means pressing right on top of the label. The 0.2 inch difference is noticeable. The Nokia N82 is also not a beauty queen, but people will buy this phone because of its features. They did not want the phone to be wide. Pressing it once shows you the last picture or video taken. While they both share similar features, the Nokia N82 stands out as the winner in the imaging category. What I don’t like about the surface is the button labels are not very visible when the keypad lights are off. Love taking pictures escpecially at night? Right after taking it out of the box, I did not have a problem with the screen size. A white color version for this phone is expected the first quarter of 2008. Display The Nokia N82’s screen display is 2.4 inches compared to 2.6 on the Nokia N95 and 2.8 on the Nokia N95 8GB. They are also well-spaced out to prevent accidental presses. All the three phones have the same screen resolution of 240×320 pixels so the texts, images and videos will look smaller on the N82. I don’t want to talk about the camera functions and the way it works yet because that will be in the second part of the review, but the lens cover works great. The material is made of hard plastic. Any standard ear/headphones fit. That same jack also connects to the TV-out cable where you can connect the Nokia N82 to a TV. I also notice that both the micro-USB and power are on the side of the phone instead of the bottom where I usually see it. I do praise it for helping me become a safer driver. I am not that crazy about the color, but my girlfriend loves it. In Ricky Cadden’s Nokia N82 first impressions, he says the placement of the micro-USB and power port gets in the way of desktop stands or car mounts with side grips. Is the N82 basically the Nokia N95 in a candybar form? It is very solid and does not feel cheap or rushed to production. That information makes me appreciate my Nseries devices more. Camera Lens Cover. The 5 megapixel camera on the Nokia N82 is protected by a lens cover. No loose parts or creaking sounds were noticed during my week of usage. Browsing the web and driving at the same time is harder on the Nokia N82 than on the Nokia N95. Sharp. While screen size bothers me, I love how sharp the display is. The product manager of the Nokia N82 said that they chose the smaller size because it was the most appropriate for the form factor they were targeting. It’s when I put it next to my Nokia N95 that it started bothering me. Because of it’s width, smooth surface, and rounded corners, putting this phone in my pocket is also easy. Shiny. The first thing people notice is the shiny surface. Jay says the keypads are very user friendly in Nseries Mobile’s Nokia N82 review. Connections Micro-USB and Power. The Nokia N82 connects to your computer through a micro-USB port. People with bigger fingers might have a problem with upper buttons (left soft key, right soft key, menu, and clear). I have to turn my Nokia N95 upside down in the cup holder whenever I am charging it. Some people don’t like the placement of the Micro-USB and power. Pressing one of the keys illuminates the buttons helps. Taking a closer look at the back of the phone, you’ll see some geometric patterns. I love this thing. They share very similar features, but buyers will need to decide what they use more. I absolutely love the gallery button. Currently the highest amount of storage available is 8GB MicroSDHC. For example, the Nokia N95 and Nokia N81, these connections are at the bottom. Pressing it again shows the thumbnails of the most recent pictures and videos taken. Side view of the Nokia N82. Power. The power is the only button on top of the Nokia N82. I recently found out that the microSD card on the LG Viewty is placed under the battery meaning you have to power down, open battery cover, and remove battery before you can take out the card. Many people consider the N82 simply as a Nokia N95 in a candybar form. With this placement, movies on the Nokia N82 also sound great. The placement of the speakers benefit the movie-watching experience, but it takes away from everything else. No signs of pixelation anywhere on the display. I would make sure to buy a desktop stand that lets me use the power port. To fully appreciate the Nokia N82, however, is knowing what it’s capable of. Build Quality. The Nokia N82 feels great in the hands. Noone jumps out and scream, “I love this thing.” The general consensus on the Nokia N82 is, “it looks okay.” Matt agrees by saying, “it is not the prettiest thing in the world by a long shot,” in the Nokia Geek’s Nokia N82 initial impression. Photo by Devin Balentina of the Nokia Guide. Standard 3.5mm jack. A 3.5mm jack is on top of the phone. After a week with the Nokia N82, I have prepared the first part of the review for this phone. I find the texts too small to read. Taking pictures in dark environment makes you want to throw away your current cameraphones. The phone will also not charge through the USB. That’s 640×480 resolution in 30 frames per second! MicroSD and MicroSDHC. The Nokia N82 takes microSD and microSDHC cards on the side. You can see that you will still be able to charge the phone while inside the stand. Nokia N82 inside a desktop stand. The Nokia N95’s form factor looks closer to an imaging phone. Nokia N95 versus Nokia N82 display size. Accessing the menus are fine to the eyes, but I don’t like browsing the internet on the N82. This should really be a standard placement on all phones because it is a lot easier to listen to music while the device is in my pocket and the earphones are connected on top. That is not completely true. Take a look at pictures taken by Devin from the Nokia Guide: desktop stand for Nokia N82. In the end, I think that the Nokia N82 won’t win any awards for its appearance, but its features make up for it. Nokia N82 at a conference room in Nokia House HQ. First Impressions The Nokia N82’s appearance does not stand out. While you can zoom in to make the texts bigger, you sacrifice cutting off some of content. These buttons are not raised and share the same surface. The icons look great, and viewing photos or videos is not a problem. Yes and no. More on the camera features and thoughts in the second part. Otherwise take the Nokia N95 with the bigger screen for better overall experience in watching movies or browsing the web. The second part of this review will go through the Nokia N82’s functions like its camera and video quality, as well as general usage experience. The lines are not embossed, so the surface remains smooth. There’s nothing special worth mentioning here. The flash on the Nokia N82 is brighter than any phone I’ve owned. Like I said, some people like that while others don’t. However, the Nokia N95 (N95-3 model) seems to have a brighter display than the Nokia N82 when both settings are set to max. The Nokia N95’s display is slightly bigger and brighter than the Nokia N82. Buttons User Friendly. People may worry that the numbers on the keypad are too small, but they are raised enough so that pressing the buttons is not a problem. What I like about the placement is that I do not need to do anything else other than remove the card from the side with the flap cover if I want to take it out. You use to turn on/off the phone, as well as change profiles to silent, normal, outdoor, etc. Speakers Built for videos. Both the left and right speakers are placed on the right side of the Nokia N82. I always show off to my friends, family, and even strangers the phones I carry around. Go with the Nokia N82. Placing calls on loudspeaker while holding the phone in your hands, decreases the volume of the call because one of the speakers is covered. You also notice the fingerprints a lot more because of the surface. Hard to see the labels when not lit. Color. The battery cover is not shiny like the front, but is warm titanium according to the box. Jeremiah feels exactly the same about the excellent build quality in as written in the Nokia User’s initial Nokia N82 impressions. I will talk about the physical aspects of the Nokia N82 and give a separate review of its features in an upcoming post. This is great to show off to your friends and family the DVD-quality video recorded on the phone viewed on a bigger screen.

I knew I had to stop and take pictures. However, I noticed that my sister took a lot of blurry pictures that I did not include in this post. I’ve mentioned in my Nokia N82 review that the shutter button is not protruding enough out of the Nokia N82’s body, unlike the button on all versions of the Nokia N95. Nokia N95-3 vs. Nokia N82 vs. Nokia N95-3 vs. I gave my sister the N82 while I used the Nokia N95 8GB. I had the Nokia N95 8GB and the Nokia N82 when I was driving by Brooklyn and saw a nice view of lower Manhattan. Take a look at the pics and tell me if you see any difference. All the pictures taken with the Nokia N95 8GB were taken by me, while the Nokia N82’s pictures were from my sister under automatic mode. Pictures taken by the Nokia N95 8GB Pictures taken by the Nokia N82 Conclusion I could not really see major differences, but I think the Nokia N82’s pictures came out a little better. Nokia N82 comparison. —Related Articles at the Nokia blog:Nokia N95 Photos of the Brooklyn BridgeBar Fight! In my opinion, pressing the camera button halfway on the Nokia N95 works and feels better. Camera quality aside, if you’re still undecided on which device to get, Devin from the Nokia Guide made a great Nokia N95 8GB vs. The main reason for this is that she did not know about pressing the shutter “halfway” for autofocus. Nokia N82 vs. During the daytime, I could not really see major differences between the two 5 megapixel cameras.

Megapixel N82 and Nokia Camera 5 Review: Its
I have taken some random pictures of New York City in a previous post, tested the xenon flash performance in complete darkness, and uploaded more pictures on my Flickr with the N82. All pictures were taken in automatic mode with flash on. Complaints. I noticed a few of my pictures from the Nokia N82 have circular flares from the flash. I also found that the Nokia N82 finds the correct focus a lot more than the Nokia N95 can. This is the phone to have with you on those fun weekend nights out with your friends. Correct focus is found when you see green brackets. In the end, I think the camera itself should make this Nseries phone worth buying. Nokia N82’s 5mp Camera with Xenon Flash The Nokia N82 is the Nseries imaging flagship device. Don’t take the picture when it is red, or else the picture will come out blurry. Sample Images Words simply can’t describe the image quality. It means that if you ask Nokia, “what phone is currently the best for taking picures?” they will respond, “Nokia N82!” This cameraphone features 5 megapixel lens with infrared autofocus assist lamp and most importantly the xenon flash. You can also read the first part reviewing the Nokia N82’s general physical/hardware before continuing. One more thing I don’t like about the Nokia N82 is that the camera button is not raised enough like the button on the Nokia N95. After 2 weeks of using the Nokia N82, I’m reviewing about its flagship feature: the camera. It is not perfect, but what cameraphone is? —Related Articles at the Nokia blog:Nokia N82The iPhone Ads are Incredible and Makes Me Want to Buy ItView From Brooklyn with the Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia N82Preview: Nokia N82 Hands On Impressions by Symbian-FreakExclusive Video: Nokia N82 Product Manager Q&A SessionHighly Possible Nokia N82 Nseries Launch in a Few Hours The flares show up randomly. Here are some night indoor pictures I took from a Thai restaurant. I’ve been using the phone to take pictures while hanging out with friends at night, and I can tell you that the experience is a lot better than using any other phones I’ve used (I have not tested the Nokia N95 8GB thoroughly yet and will see how the camera performs against the Nokia N82 soon). This can be confusing for people in front of the Nokia N95’s camera because they think the light was the flash and that the picture as already taken. In a brighter environment, this light does not go on. It is a white light that goes on when pressing the shutter halfway before taking the picture. The camera application opens immediately after the lens cover is opened and you press the shutter halfway to get an automatic focus and then press fully to take the picture. The main reason for this is the bright xenon flash, but also in part of the AF assist lamp. The image quality is quite similar during daytime, but very different during the evening. It is a tad easier on the Nokia N95 to press “halfway” for focusing on objects. Conclusion I love the camera on the Nokia N82. I know it is related to the flash, but I’m clueless to what specific situations these flares appear in. Learn more by reading Digital Photography Review’s definition of AF assist lamps. This is not a problem for the Nokia N82. It works just like any standalone digital camera. Great AF Assist lamp. The Nokia N82 features an AF assist red light that illuminates the object in a dark environment before taking the picture to determine how to adjust the focus. Definitely not, but those cameras can’t do half as much what these ‘multimedia computers’ are capable of. Seamless Experience. I’m amazed at how imaging has evolved in cell phones. The Nokia N95’s AF assist lamp uses the same as the flash lamp.

VisualHub creators made sure to make the program very easy to use. Question. My question to my Mac readers is how do you convert your videos for your Nokia devices? I previously wrote how to convert videos for Nokia Nseries phones, but now I’ve been using a better solution for Mac users with phones capable of playing excellent quality H.264 videos like the Nokia N93i, Nokia N82, and all versions of the Nokia N95. These properties are similar to the videos available for the iPods (not the iPhone). All the converted videos will end in .MP4 extension. Take a look at the How-To. VisualHub settings for High-Quality-Video-capable Nseries phones. Step 1. Open up VisualHub and choose conversion to iTunes optimized for iPod. Step 2. That’s it! That’s it? Someone may ask why I chose iTunes instead of MP4 tab. Yep, I told you it was simple. Background The Nokia N82, Nokia N95, and the Nokia N93i’s movie player, RealPlayer, can all handle video compresed with MPEG-4 AVC also known as H.264, which has become the preferred compressions for best quality and low file sizes. The reason for that is the H.264 checkbox under the MP4 tab will not support the Baseline profile, so it won’t be playable on the phone. HUH?!

Now I know this is a solidly built N95, not the Nokia Xpress Music 5700 which can twist on it’s axis. Intrigued? Good video I must say. It already has media controls! Still, I can see why people would want one…it’s like MAGIC! The phone doesn’t need to have a touch screen.
