European Commission officials have announced a funding that is part of the MEDIA 2007 program, and funding is now available for innovating interactive works for computers, mobile phones (yes, that means Flash Lite games as well , handhelds and game consoles. “The projects are selected on the basis of development strategy, development budget, strategies for financing and distribution, quality of project, feasibility of production, and international distribution. Can’t remember the exact details, but instead of former 40+ page submission forms the new ones are more like 20+ page, and the whole process is (said to be) simplified. Do note that the company making the submission must have previous track record: “Grants of this type are aimed at companies developing on and off-line interactive works. Companies submitting an application must have completed a previous work, which has been commercially distributed during the period between 1 January 2005 and the date of submission of their application.” Read more from EGDF (European Games Developer Federation) site The call for proposals can be found here (.pdf) More details can be found here The deadlines for submissions are: November 15, 2007 and April 15, 2008. The EU forms have been notoriously complex, but just a couple of weeks ago some changes were made to proposal forms. The maximum grant is EUR 60 000 except for the development of game prototypes for games consoles, portable consoles and computers for which the maximum grant is EUR 100 000.” That is the normal way for subsidized funding within EU: it means that you are able to get 50% of the funding for the project, and need to get the other half yourself. Maximum support is EUR 100.000 for all aspects of development, and cannot exceed 50% of the eligible costs.” “The total budget allocated to the co-financing of projects is estimated to be EUR 1,5 million (providing the EU budget for 2008 is approved). The financial assistance from the Community cannot exceed 50 % of the total eligible costs (60 % for single projects presenting an interest in promoting European cultural diversity). The minimum grant is EUR 10 000.
Flash Authoring video mobile for 2.x content Lite
There’s a new article in the Adobe Mobile and Devices DevNet, Authoring mobile video content for Flash Lite 2.x, and the writer of the article is Nick Hippe. This 5 page article explains the basics of Flash Lite 2.0 and video (which does not include FLV, Flash video, as Flash Lite 2.0 does not support it — so if the mobile device is able to play video files, one must use devices own supported video format) — it’s a good read.
